The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Wildland Fire Investigations Plan. Duties

Responsibilities:
The Senior Wildland Fire Investigator position is an chapter of the DNR Police & Investigation Services plan and is responsible for leading complex, high profile civil wildland fire investigations within their assigned areas for the chief purpose of recovering burn down suppression costs of fires that are determined to be caused due to negligence. They are too expected to provide preparation, mentorship and fire investigation oversight on wildland burn down investigations conducted by region trained and qualified fire investigators. This position may work with DNR Police force officers, or other LE agencies, on criminal wildland fire investigations or chore forces as directed. This position serves as a statewide resources and will require some overnight travel.

Note: This is a non-commissioned position.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Fully investigated the origin and cause of at least 25 wildland fires, including cost recovery and reporting.
    OR, Assigned equally a full-fourth dimension detective in a LE agency for a minimum of three (3) years.
  • Experience in the principles, methods, and techniques of wildland fire investigations, ceremonious investigations, public relations, court rules and proceedings, and evidence collection handling and storage.
  • Fantabulous verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills and experience in communicating effectively, coaching, mentoring, and training others.
  • Successfully consummate Wildland Fire Origin & Crusade Investigation Conclusion (Fl-210) upon hire.

  • Must maintain the status as an INVF and successfully meet the DNR's annual Work Capacity Test for the INVF series.
  • Must be able and willing to perform tasks under (only not limited to) the post-obit conditions: traverse over difficult, heavily canopied, uneven terrain in all weather weather. Must be able and willing to work outdoors during inclement weather conditions.
  • The incumbent in this position is required to travel. Must be able and willing to conduct extended wildland fire investigations relating to wildland fire related incidents in remote areas across the state. Must be able and willing to place, collect, and store hard to manage evidence from areas with express accessibility.
